This week I wanted to cover highlights from live shows I’ve been to in recent times.
But first, I was pleased to see two of my favourite acts of recent years Chelsea Wolfe and the exceptional Boy Harsher collaborate for the first time with Boy Harsher remixing Chelsea Wolfe’s House of Self-Undoing from her latest album She Reaches Out To She Reaches Out To She. The remix became available on Tuesday.
Even better, you must check out Boy Harsher’s Burn It Down (Rework) from last year.
and the original version of Burn It Down and their prior albums.
Back to the live music.
I upload video clip highlights of gigs I’ve been to here on my You Tube channel and my Instagram. I’ve nothing against people filming at shows if it’s done in a respectful way to other audience members. It’s talking loud at shows that pisses fans off, see NIN’s cover of Bowie’s I’m Afraid of Americans below.
This time I’m looking back on live show highlights from 2022. A good year for live music, including some of my favourite artists of all time.
You can save these to Watch Later of course, or share.
Here is The Cure live in Copenhagen on their recent Shows of a Lost World Tour, or should that be Songs From A Lost Album tour – where is that new album promised in 2022? I was near the side of the stage and captured the band before they went onstage in homage to the infamous The Cure In Orange show filmed in 1986 at the Théâtre antique d'Orange. This time it was the Royal Arena in Copenhagen, Denmark, in the early stages of their latest tour where this was captured.
The summer of 2022 brought Nine Inch Nails back to Brixton Academy after an absence of sometime, following their Eden Project shows in Cornwall. Highlights here:
Nine Inch Nails at the Eden Project, Cornwall. The last time I saw Nine Inch Nails open a set in daylight was at Glastonbury during The Fragile era, as the sun began to set.
2022 also saw Bauhaus back together for what would become Bauhaus’s last ever show in the U.K, before the finality of their split with no reunion looking possible. Brixton Academy hosted.
2022 what a good year, and it must be said, before Depeche Mode started charging £170 and upwards for official channel tickets, using dynamic pricing an insult to any loyal music fan base. Kudos to Robert Smith for challenging such tactics. Back to 2022, which also brought…
Public Image Limited at Brighton Chalk.
Dead Can Dance at Hammersmith Apollo
And one from the archives, from a band I signed at EMI a long time ago, this was seventeen years later and they were still rockin’ with two sold out nights at Shepherds Bush Empire. Hell Is For Heroes.
Full set here, a concert film I contributed too.
Highlights uploaded also include The Jesus & Mary Chain, Nadine Shah, Cranes, Psychedelic Furs, Soft Cell… find more on my Instagram too.
Here’s Nine Inch Nails covering David Bowie’s I’m Afraid Of Americans from close to side of the stage at The Royal Festival Hall for Robert’s Smith’s Meltdown in 2018. A memorable week of great music, including My Bloody Valentine, Deftones, among many others.
Talking of Robert Smith, to close out, here’s Cureation 25 (named so due to contractual reasons, due to an exclusive commitment in Hyde Park, and otherwise known as The Cure), on the last night of Robert Smith’s Meltdown Festival.
A Strange (and wonderful) Day.
Next Time:
Until next time, where I’ll revisit How The Recorded Music Industry Got Crushed By Big Tech & US Policy, with possible cures for artists.
